MPQ Community Quilts Project.

The Aim.

MPQ members voted to implement a Community Quilts Project.

This means that we will have a stockpile of completed quilts to donate to worthy causes when the need arises.

The member volunteer coordinators for this project are -

Kate Gore Mobile:0404509488
Kathy Labour Mobile:0423561202
Linda Martin Mobile: 0417479816

Members can participate by donating fabric, orphan blocks, unfinished/unloved projects and of course their time and expertise (piecing, quilting, binding etc.).

MPQ committee has allocated a sum of money to this project which will mostly be spent on buying batting and backing fabric.

The aim is for a coordinator to have projects available at every Sarah Day for members to select which project that they would like to complete. Everything that is required to complete that project is included in the pack. Each project will have an individual number that is allotted to it which allows the coordinators to track that project's progress until it is gifted. We are also able to track how many projects are in progress and how many quilts have been gifted.

There is no time frame for projects to be completed but we would hope that they would be completed in a timely manner.

Louise Brown Thomas aka Glendoon Cottage aka Lotus Fabrics has very generously donated the use of a room at Glendoon for our use. It is here that the donated goods and completed quilts will be stored until they are gifted. Louise has also used her industry contacts and has been able to source very generously priced batting for our use.

Please bear in mind that this is a place of business, so it is preferred that all donations of goods are made through the coordinators or a committee member.

Through word of mouth, we have also received several donated sewing machines that we can have set up at the shop to use when we need to piece batting, backing and binding when we are making up project packs. These are invaluable in making the most efficient use of our time.

We have also received quilt tops and completed quilts from non-members who have heard about our project. People really are very kind.

Communication is also very important. The coordinators are here to answer any questions and to perhaps tailor a project for you. We can also do pickups or drop offs if required.

Finally, a very big thank you to everyone who has contributed to this project so far. It is impossible to name people individually, but you know who you are. We could not do it without you.

Happy sewing and friendship
